Backlinks Backlinks Explained And Expanded

Backlinks, sometimes referred to as inbound links, are incoming links to a website published on another website. In search engine results page (SERP) ranking, backlinks are one of the leading aspects that determine how high one’s website gets displayed in a search engine’s search, such as Google.

As I said backlinks are simply how many others are talking about your site around the internet and this is how the search engines figure out how much value your site or blog has. If plenty of people are talking about you, that means you have plenty of backlinks which also means your site/blog is pretty important to web users. This is the main reason you would want backlinks, because the more you have, the more important your site/blog becomes which means more people will end up finding you.

Even if plenty of backlinks come to your site the natural way, additional quality backlinks are always welcome and the time you spend building them is not wasted. Among the acceptable ways of building quality backlinks are getting listed in directories, posting in forums, blogs and article directories. The unacceptable ways include inter linking (linking from one site to another site, which is owned by the same owner or exists mainly for the purpose to be a link farm), linking to spam sites or sites that host any kind of illegal content, purchasing links in bulk, linking to link farms, etc.

By analyzing the backlinks to competitor websites, it is possible to gain a benchmark on the number of links and the quality of links that is required for high search engine rankings. Another possible outcome of competitive backlinking is the identification of the type of websites that are inclined to link to a specific type of website.

Be careful when using backlinks by linking from sites that have relevant information. They should be similar subjects or themes or these backlinks will hurt you.

As a rule of thumb, more backlinks means showing up higher in the search engine rankings, so more people find your site when they search, and click through to you.

As long as the source of backlinks is legitimate and relevant (not link farms), backlinks provide value to the target or destination website, increasing its rank in search engine results.
