To Blog or Not to Blog?

That is the Question!

Have you ever been in to a dress shop and see somehitng that was labelled ‘One Size Fits All’?

Well, I think we all know what that means – one size does not fit all and that’s the same with blogs.

Most bloggers will advise business owners that they should get a blog to boost their profiles and hence- presumably- their profits.

BUT…IS THAT REALLY TRUE?

It  is true that writing regular, relevant blog posts can boost your web site’s rankings on search engines. It is also true that readers are more likely to become clients and/or customers if they get to know and like your business.
And, another bonus is that a blog can be a very cheap or even virtually free way to get a good looking website.

So, no argument then……But Wait!

A few words of warning:

  • ‘Regular, relevant posts will boost your rankings’- true, but equally nothing looks worse than an out of date blog. I was recently about to book a workshop with a so-called marketing guru. However, when I checked his blog, the last entry was nearly a year ago – Guess who saved some money and stayed at home?!
  • You don’t have to be Shakespeare to write a blog, but you do have to have somehting worth saying and be able to express it clearly and with your own ‘voice’. No-one wants to be bored!
  • Blogs can certainly be a very cheap way to run a website but they do require a certain amount of technical know how to set up and maintain. If you aren’t technical yourself you may have to pay someone else to do it for you or get frustrated with the process.

So, To Blog or Not to Blog?
